A royal dynasty in disarray. Lust and death at every turn. The king desires his step-daughter, a beautiful, wild princess. She desires a prophet held captive and strikes a deadly deal. An erotic dance in exchange for whatever she likes. One of Richard Strauss’ most compelling operas, based on the Oscar Wilde play, the music, sweet, sour, sensual, frenzied, often dizzyingly thrilling, has not been blunted by time. Salome is still one of the wildest and most rewarding rides you can experience in an opera house.

Soprano Sinéad Campbell-Wallace, who amazed audiences as Tosca in 2022, returns to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in the title role as the princess Salome. This new production is directed by Bruno Ravella, the mastermind behind Irish National Opera’s spectacular production of Der Rosenkavalier. The thrilling and passionate music will be brought to life by the Irish National Opera Orchestra conducted by Fergus Sheil.
