The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra (RTÉ NSO) presents Steven Spielberg’s cinematic masterpiece E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in the Irish premiere of the film with live orchestra at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on Saturday, 9 December 2017.
Speaking about the event, Anthony Long, General Manager, RTÉ NSO said:
"This Irish premiere of E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial with the RTÉ NSO live is to celebrate the film’s 35th anniversary this year. At the event, people can re-live Spielberg's magical story and experience their national orchestra performing John Williams' iconic score live. If you were captivated by E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial on its release in 1982, you can now share this experience with your own family. It's a film that remains forever in people’s hearts.”
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial was released on 11 June 1982 by Universal Pictures and proved to be an immediate blockbuster, surpassing Star Wars to become the highest-grossing film of all time. It held this record for eleven years until Jurassic Park, another Spielberg-directed film, surpassed it in 1993.
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is the moving story of the lost little alien E.T. who befriends Elliott, a 10 year old boy. Elliott, together with his siblings, attempt to keep E.T. hidden whilst working out how to return him home. It is widely acclaimed by critics as a timeless story of friendship and considered to be one of the greatest films ever made.
Audiences of all ages can experience E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial as never before. Members of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra will perform John Williams’ Academy Award®-winning score live in sync with the film which will be projected on a huge HD screen in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. Join Elliott and E.T. as they soar across the moon and beyond, reliving the magic once again.
