Featuring MerQury, special guest Soprano with a full Orchestra and Choir
Queen and Freddie Mercury were one of the most charismatic bands and singers in rock music history, dominating the music horizon for almost 20 years in the ‘70s and ‘80s. With exceptional ease, Freddie Mercury moved between styles both as a front man of the band Queen and in his solo projects. His unique voice mastered soulful ballads, sweeping rock anthems as well as glittering pop songs. Equally talented as a songwriter, Freddie Mercury was instrumental in creating most of the music he performed. As diverse as his works may be on the surface, almost everything he wrote bears the mark of his passion for orchestral sounds and grand opera voices. In 1987, this special love led him to record the album Barcelona, the collaboration with opera diva Montserrat Caballé.
MerQury has now turned to this musical legacy and created a breathtaking show, Queen Classical. Great Queen songs lend themselves to an entirely new dimension with the arrangements for rock band, full orchestra, solo voices and choir. Arranged exclusively for this show by Bernd Wefelmeyer, the extraordinary scores he has produced for Queen Classical breathe Freddie Mercury's love for the richness and grandeur of symphonic sounds and are delivered with brilliance to the stage.
Having performed all over to Europe to stunning reviews MerQury now bring their breathtaking show to Ireland for the very first time and for one night only on Saturday February 28th 2015. Performing with a full Orchestra and choir along with a guest Soprano, the sound of Freddie Mercury and Queen will fill Bord Gais Energy Theatre, recreating the unique performances of legendary concerts of the 70s and 80s, including Freddie’s memorable appearance at Live Aid 1985.
Featuring the Hibernian Orchestra, & guest soprano Lynsey Curtin and the Glória Dublin's Lesbian and Gay Choir
